Dexter Township Seeks Candidates to Fill Vacancies on Boards, Commissions

Applicants can apply via email or in person at the township hall through Dec. 10.

The Dexter Township Board of Trustees will make and/or confirm appointments to various township boards, commissions and committees at its regular meeting on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.

Individuals interested in applying for any of the expiring or open appointments may send a letter of interest and resume via regular mail to Township Supervisor Pat Kelly at 6880 Dexter-Pinckney Road, Dexter, MI. 48130; by email to supervisor-dexter@twp-dexter.org; or by fax to Pat Kelly at 734-426-3833 no later than Dec. 10.

Resumes and letters received after 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 10 will be kept on file
for future consideration.

Planning Commission

Available positions include two full-time appointments for three-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2015. Candidates for the available appointments should be qualified electors of Dexter Township. Criterion for Planning Commission membership also includes representation of all interests in the township including agriculture, business, residential, lakes residential, recreation, etc.

The Planning Commission is responsible for making and adopting a basic plan to be used as a guide for the development of the township and for the evaluation and approval or denial of site plans for development in the township. The Planning Commission generally meets two times per month on Tuesday evenings.

Zoning Board of Appeals

Available positions include one full-time appointment for a three-year term ending Dec. 31, 2015. Zoning Board members hear and decide a variety of
questions that arise in the administration of the zoning ordinance, including interpretation of the zoning text and maps, appeals of zoning decisions and variance requests.

Members of the ZBA must be qualified electors of Dexter Township; criterion also includes representation of all interests in the township. Zoning Board meetings are held once per month, generally on Tuesday evenings.

Board of Review

The township board will appoint three representatives and two alternate representatives to the Board of Review, all for two-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2014. The purpose of the Board of Review is to ensure that all township property is assessed fairly and equally.

The primary business of the board is to hear and decide property assessment appeals and to certify the township assessment roll. All board members must be qualified electors, land owners and taxpayers of Dexter Township. The board meets extensively in the month of March (six to 10 meetings of three to six hours) and once in July and December.

Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC)

One full-time appointment will be made for the remainder of a two-year term ending Dec. 31, 2013. The purpose of the PSAC is to provide an assessment of the overall structure, service levels and funding requirements for the provision of fire, police and emergency medical services to Dexter Township and to provide recommendations to the Dexter Township Board to support and promote the delivery of high quality, cost effective public safety services. To the extent possible members will be representative of the major population centers and geographic areas within the township.
