Dexter Village Council Approves Purchase of Climbing Boulder for Warrior Creek Park

The village will install a playground boulder for climbing in the park this summer.

Dexter children will have a new element to add to their recreation at Warrior Creek Park this summer.

The Dexter Village Council approved the purchase of a new 6-foot-wide by 8-foot-long playground climbing boulder at its regular meeting Monday. The boulder costs $9,300 and will be purchased with funds the village received from a 5 Healthy Towns grant it received in 2011.

"The Parks and Recreation Commission is recommending the purchase of the boulder (in lieu of other equipment) based on providing a different play element within Warrior Creek Park, the ability to reach a larger range of ages with a different play element, and the natural appeal of the boulder structure," wrote Allison Bishop, community development director, in a memo to the council.

Bishop said the boulder will be installed with help from community volunteers and organizations.

The boulder will be purchased from Rockwerx Climbing and is usable by children and adults. The boulder will be added to existing playground equipment in the park.
