Dexter Village Council Approves Tax Exemption for QED Environmental Systems

The company's objective is to double its production during the next five years.

The Dexter Village Council unanimously approved a 10-year tax abatement for QED Environmental Systems at its regular meeting Monday night.

The company, located at 2355 Bishop Cir. W., manufactures environmental monitoring and remediation equipment for groundwater sampling, groundwater remediation and landfill liquids.

According to information provided by the village, the tax abatement is for $104,498 in new personal property and $758,000 in real property improvements at the QED facility during the next 10 years. The expansion is expected to bring 54 jobs to the community.

"We appreciate the consideration of our tax abatement request. It's very important in helping to fund our growth," QED President David Kaminski said. "We're a big fish in a small pond, supplying environmental equipment used around the world in landfills and contamination sites."

Kaminiski said the company's corporate objective is to double its production within the next five years.

According to information provided in the Village Council packet, Dexter's industrial facilities tax abatement program "encourages new companies to invest in the community and assist existing companies as they continue to invest in their businesses."

The amount of temporary tax relief that a business is eligible for is based on the value of its investment in the community.

"The village benefits by receiving 50 percent of the tax revenue that we wouldn't otherwise have received if the company had not made the investment," village President Shawn Keough said. "In the case of QED, the additional revenue is $3,000, which will be increased to $6,000 once the abatement expires, so it's a win-win for everyone."
