Dexter Village Council Passes Funding Agreement for Border-to-Border Trail

Construction on the trail is expected to begin this summer in Dexter.

The Dexter Village Council unanimously passed a  funding agreement Monday with the Washtenaw County Road Commission and the Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission to allow the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority to construct a nonmotorized path from the village to .

The construction is part of a $3 million-plus initiative in Washtenaw County's Border-to- Border project, a 35-mile pathway that will connect communities, parks and educational facilities along the Huron River. Dexter's part of the trail will connect Hudson Mills Metropark to Warrior Creek Park. Construction is set to begin this summer.

In other action:

  • The council also approved recommendations from the Planning Commission for the village's Capital Improvement Plan. The CIP is designed to make projections and improvements on the transportation and facilities in the village over a six-year period. The council will use the CIP as a guide on construction projects through 2016.
  • Aubree's Pizzeria & Tavern, a small franchise based in Ypsilanti, was granted a liquor license by the council. Aubree's hopes to open by mid-June and will be located downtown in the Monument Park Building, former home of the recently closed .
  • The council's April 25 meeting will include further discussion on Dexter's medical marijuana ordinance. Village President Shawn Keough said he doesn't expect action to be taken until shortly before the village's current moratorium expires in July.
