Dexter Village Reviewing Options for New Office, Fire Station

Dexter Village officials are entertaining ideas for new village offices and a fire station.

The Dexter Village Council is once again considering options for a new village office building and a new fire station.

According to an article in the Dexter Leader, this is not the first time options have been presented to the village council.

The article states that the council has been considering options of one sort, or another, since 2008.

All options are based on a minimum of 5,000 square feet of space for the office building, according to the article.

Some of the options include renovating the current fire station on Main Street and turning it into village office space. The fire department would then be relocated. This option would cost $1,476,000.

The most expensive option is adding a second story onto the building at 8140 Main Street. The second story would be used as village offices and would cost $2,568,000, the article states.

The least expensive option would be to renovate the fire department and demolish the existing 3,000 square foot living area. That area would then be rebuilt. This option costs $750,000.

According to the Dexter Leader, the village will seek financial support from the DDA to pay for one or more of the options discussed at the village council meeting.
