Dexter Village Water, Sewer Rates Going Up 3 Percent

Property millages will remain the same for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

The Dexter Village Council voted to raise water and sewer rates by 3 percent effective July 1 at its meeting on Monday. However, the current $35 ($17.50 per month) fee for garbage pickup will remain the same.

According to village officials, a family using 10,000 gallons of water during the normal two-month billing cycle can expect to see an increase of $3.74 each cycle, or $1.87 per month.

The council also set its proposed millage rate at 13.5 for real and personal property for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

Village President Shawn Keough said the millage has remained the same for the past six years.

"We've taken great steps in order to not raise the property millage," Keough said.

  • Donna Palmer, a Scio Township trustee, expressed her concern over the lack of a Memorial Day program after the 2011 parade down Main Street. "I'm asking that our Memorial Day program, as it's always happened, will remain the same," Palmer said. "It is an important event to our community, and I don't believe it has to be put on by an organization of a military structure. The Memorial Day program is part of who we are as a community."
