Filing Deadline Approaches for Dexter Village Council, School Board Candidates

The deadline to file paperwork to run for office in the November general election is 4 p.m. Aug. 14.

Candidates who plan on running for the Dexter Village Council or Dexter Community Schools Board of Education have roughly two and a half weeks left to file their paperwork with the Washtenaw County Clerk's Office.

School Board candidates must file an Affidavit of Identity and a nominating petition by 4 p.m. Aug. 14. A $100 nonrefundable fee may be filed in lieu of a petition. Candidates have until 4 p.m. Aug. 17 to withdraw their petition.

With the board's new six-year term policy, President Larry Cobler and Trustee Bonnie Everdeen will be up for re-election in November. Trustee Kim Covert's seat is also up for election. Chris Gordon was appointed by the board to after Covert's resignation earlier this year. Whoever is elected for Covert's seat will serve through 2014. Currently no petitions have been filed with the county.

Candidates seeking election to the Dexter Village Council must file their declaration of intent with the township clerk's office in Scio and Webster Township by 4 p.m. Aug. 14. Trustees Joe Semifero, Paul Cousins, and Jim Smith are all up for re-election. Clerk Carol Jones and Village President Shawn Keough are also up for re-election.
