Filing Deadline for Aug. 7 Township Primary Elections is Tuesday

The filing deadline for candidates affiliated with political parties is Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Township and county candidates affiliated with political parties have until 4 p.m. Tuesday to file paperwork in order to be included on the Aug. 7 primary ballot in Washtenaw County.

As of Monday morning, several incumbents in western Washtenaw County have declared their intent to seek another term.

Dexter Township

In Dexter Township, Clerk Harley Rider, a Republican, is currently running unopposed. Trustee Jason Maciejewski, a Democrat, has also filed for re-election. No one has filed for township supervisor or treasurer.

Dexter Village

Candidates running for office in Dexter Village have until Aug. 14 to file paperwork in order to be included on the November general election ballot.

Lima Township

For the first time in many years in Lima Township, more than one candidate has filed to run for supervisor. Incumbent Supervisor Ken Unterbrink, a Republican, will be challenged by Craig Maier, another Republican, for the 4-year term in the primary. Robert Spink is also running for supervisor. Clerk Arlene Bareis and Treasurer Nanette Havens are running unopposed. Incumbent Donald Laier and resident Lawrence Risner have filed for township trustee.

Webster Township

Webster Township Suervisor John Kingsley, Jr. has filed for re-election. No one has filed for township clerk. Robert Mitzel, a current planning commissioner, has added his name to the ballot. He’s running as a Republican, and joins two Republican trustee incumbents Charles Estleman and Gary Koch, who have also already filed for the four seats. In addition, incumbent Treasurer Carol Whitney, a Republican, has filed for re-election.

Scio Township

Several of the current Democrats in office in Scio Township have filed for re-election. Spaulding Clark (supervisor), Nancy Hedberg (clerk), and Dick DeLong, David Read and Jack Knowles (trustee). There are four trustee seats open.

Candidates who plan to run as independents in the general election have until July 19 to file their intent.
