Floodplain Protection Ordinance on Dexter Village Council Agenda

On Monday night, the council is expected to hold a public hearing to approve a new floodplain ordinance.

The Dexter Village Council is holding a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the . Here is a preview of selected agenda items that will likely be discussed at the meeting. The council meeting will be preceded by a work session at 6 p.m. to discuss street repairs to Edison, Main and Central streets.

  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency recently completed mapping from their 2006 field work of the Mill Creek and Huron River area in Dexter. Properties located in the floodplain could be required to purchase flood insurance. For these properties to be eligible to purchase flood insurance, the village must participate in the National Flood Insurance Program. A public hearing on the floodplain protection ordinance will take place at tonight's meeting.
  • The village council will consider creating an Industrial Development District for MedHub, located at 3515 Broad St. Once the district has been developed, businesses inside the district can request an industrial facilities tax exemption.
