Calling All Artists

Bates Elementary School is seeking artists to demonstrate their craft at its upcoming fundraiser.

in Dexter is seeking artists for its annual "Art and Eat" fundraiser on May 18.

 The event will feature a raffle, refreshments, music and art.

“Four to five pieces of each student's art will be displayed throughout the school,” Wendy Martin, event co-chairwoman, said.

In addition to student work, Martin and co-chairwoman Debbie Penrose are interested in recruiting local artists for the event.

“We are looking for some local artists to put up an easel and draw, paint or sketch and just be able to demonstrate to the kids how cool art really is,” Martin said. "I would love to have a variety of artists to come and set up and just do what they do."

Last year, close to 400 people attended the fundraiser, which raised more than $5,000.
