Department of Education Releases 2012 Michigan Merit Exam Results Thursday

The MME an ACT scores for Dexter Community Schools will be released to the public at 10 a.m. today.

The Michigan Department of Education will release its 2012 Michigan Merit Exam and ACT results today.

The MME exam is an annual assessment of high school juniors taken in the spring. The MME is used as a measurement of adequate yearly progress, a No Child Left Behind Act assessment of annual improvement.

Last year, Dexter Community Schools in a majority of the five subjects. In math, 77 percent of high school juniors were proficient compared with 75 percent in 2010 and 69 percent in 2009. Eighty-five percent of juniors showed proficiency in reading versus 83 in 2010 and 79 in 2009. In science, 84 percent of students achieved proficiency versus 82 percent in 2010 and 76 percent in 2009.

The high school also saw minor changes in the Social Studies category  (a shift from 94 percent proficiency in 2010 to 93 percent in 2011) and writing (68 percent proficiency in 2011).
