Dexter Athletic Director Darren Kecskes Resigns Position

Mike Bavineau, girls varsity basketball coach, will serve as an interim athletic director for the school district.

After less than a month on the job, Darren Kecskes has quit as the Dexter Community Schools athletic director.

According to an e-mail from Sean Burton, director of support services for the district, Kecskes was hired for a different job last week.

"Darren worked in Dexter for two weeks and was offered his new position based on an interview that took place prior to accepting the position in Dexter," Burton said.

Kecskes  to replace Brett Steele, who left the district in April, citing a difference of opinion in how the athletics and community services departments were organized.

"Mike has been a teacher and coach in the district for many years, is well respected by his peers, and has expressed interest in the position in the past. He has a great understanding of our culture and ideas on how to address our shortfalls and build on our strengths," Burton said.

"The challenges that are currently presented to us may seem significant when you first hear of them, however, if we all work together and focus on our student athletes, we will conquer our challenges provide our student athletes with positive memorable experiences that they will always remember."

Kecskes said he wasn't comfortable divulging where he was headed because the announcement won't be official until later this week. 

Kecskes was hired at Dexter Community Schools out of 187 applicants and had a yearly salary of $50,000 at Dexter.
