Dexter Community Education Offers New Programs for 2013

A youth rugby team, chili cook-off, and other family-friendly events are scheduled for the new year.

Dexter Community Education is kicking-off 2013 with a variety of classes open to the public beginning this month.

A rookie rugby league will be offered for boys in grades 7 and 8 at Wylie Elementary School this winter, as well as field hockey for girls (grades 3-8) and lacrosse for boys (grades 5-6) and girls (grades 7-8).

The new session of First Steps Playgroups is available for registration online. There are new programs in the preschool enrichment division with Alphabet Soup and Book Club, Jr. with discounts for First Steps families, as well.

In addition to programs for kids, classes in weight control, gluten-free living, online safety, and Introduction to Mac computers, will be offered for adults. Other classes include "Mommy and Me" and Prenatal Yoga and aqua workout programs.

Community education will host a chili cookoff on Feb. 9. The proceeds for the cookoff with begin a scholarship fund to provide programming for children and families in financial need.
