After a successful in-state season, where the combined novice, junior varsity
and varsity debate teams won the George Ziegelmueller Award for the best team in the state for the second year in a row, the Dexter Debate Team qualified to represent the State of Michigan in the National Forensic League’s National Championship Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind.
Senior Em Winfield and sophomore Amelia Sadler joined 185 other teams from
across the country to debate the national resolution, “Resolved: The United
States federal government should substantially increase its exploration and/or
development of space beyond the earth’s mesosphere.”
During the six-day event, Sadler and Winfield went 11-1 in the preliminary rounds, earning them a berth in the elimination rounds. Dexter went on to win two of the four elimination rounds, making them the highest ranked debate team from Michigan ever.
