Dexter Media Teacher Matt Martello Steps Down After 10 Years

Following the 2011-2012 school year, Media Literacy, Video Production, and Speech teacher Matt Martello decided to take a one-year leave of absence.

While much student speculation has taken place as to the exact reason for his departure, the reason for the departure was simply that Martello needed a change.

“There were many good times, but a lot of negativity crept into my daily routine in the past couple of years,” he said. “I have become frustrated and disillusioned with the teaching profession. Suffice it to say, I do not believe teaching is for me anymore. My attitude could certainly change throughout the year, but currently, that’s where I’m at right now.”

Martello’s current location is in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he said he spends most of his time job searching and reconnecting with his brother.

“I am very close to my brother Andy. He and I talked about this move for a couple of years now,” he said. “Andy started introducing me to some of his friends, one of whom has a professional theater company out here. I have plans to direct a show with this company in the spring of 2013.”

Friends of Martello’s Facebook profile likely have noticed the many photos of the various locations he’s been in in Sin City. Martello said, “For the first couple of weeks, I helped a Vegas headliner, The Amazing Jonathan, with his haunted house that will be in downtown Vegas. It looks as if I will be one of the actors for the haunted house as well. I also was an extra for the Food Network’s show ‘Mystery Diners.’”

Martello taught for 15 years, 10 of those spent at DHS.
