Dexter Community Schools went into lockdown Thursday afternoon around 2:05 p.m. following reports from a student that two teenagers were seen carrying "someting like a gun."
According to Superintendent Mary Marshall, , , , and Mill Creek Middle School were locked down until police could investigate the claim.
"After the investigation, two teens with backpacks were seen walking near the schools, and were stopped and questioned and did not have a weapon," Marshall said.
The student who reported seeing the teens later reported he was quite a distance from the teens, so a positive identification of a reported weapon could not be confirmed.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department checked the area surrounding the schools and determined there was no actual threat to students.
"We always err on the side of caution until such reports are investigated," Marshall said.
This is the third time in the last two months that Dexter Schools has issued a lockdown due to potential threats to students. In April, deputies discovered an area in the Walkabout Creek apartment complex .
