Dexter Students, Parents Prepare Dinners in Healthy Cooking Class

Fifth and sixth grade students received hands-on training from the Art Institute of Michigan to prepare a meal with their parents.

Dexter area students and their parents took part in a healthy cooking class held Nov. 14 at Creekside Intermediate School.

Chef Anthony Pinicotti, an instructor at the Art Institute of Michigan, led the two-hour class of fifth- and sixth-grade students and their parents. Participants prepared and ate a meal during the class which was offered free.

The class was paid for by a Move Forward Grant, sponsored by the Chelsea-Area Wellness Foundation to promote healthy choices in grades K-6.

Pinicotti taught parents and students important cooking skills that can be used at home. The parent-student teams prepared an appetizer, main course and salad.
