Dexter's Junior Dancers Rally Home Crowds at Varsity Basketball Game

Students in kindergarten through sixth grade provided half-time entertainment during the varsity basketball game against Ypsilanti.

Weeks of intense training paid off for 31 Dexter youth who participated in this year's Junior Pom Clinic on Jan. 13.

The clinic teaches students in kindergarten through sixth grade how to perform at half-time alongside the DHS varsity and junior varsity dance teams during the football and basketball seasons.

The girls danced to "Love Ya Like a Love Song" by Selena Gomez during the Dexter varsity boys basketball game against Ypsilanti.

The clinic was led by varsity captains Kathleen Bailey, Olivia Marks and Lauren Wilson.

The dance clinics are coordinated through the Community Education Department and are fundraisers for the dance teams. The money earned from the clinics is used to help the dancers attend the Universal Dance Association Dance Camp held at Oakland University every summer.

At the camp, the dance teams learn new dance techniques and choreography from the professional dancers of the Universal Dance Association. Last summer the DHS team received the Team Spirit Award as well as the Leadership Award.
