Educational Foundation Auction Deemed a Success

The proceeds from the annual fundraiser benefit Dexter Community School student programs.

The numbers are in for the annual Educational Foundation of Dexter auction, and event organizers couldn't be happier.

"We did great. We've really been fortunate that the community has been willing to come out and support us," EFD President Linda Brewer said. "We sold 246 tickets, and we had at least that many people attend on Saturday."

This year's event took place at the Ann Arbor Country Club and featured both silent and live auctions, with proceeds benefiting EFD's teacher grant program.

Brewer said the auctions raised more than $50,000 that will be put into the spring grant cycle to be used to fund classroom programs to enrich education at each of Dexter's six schools.

Brewer said one of the highlights of the evening was a heavy bidding competition among three families over a chocolate labradoodle puppy during the live auction. Jamie and Tracy Mystery of Dexter eventually won the dog.

"We always have a lively auction with Dexter's Joe Merkel as our auctioneer. He can really work the crowd. With 21 live auction items, it's hard to maintain that level of intensity, but Joe keeps everyone going," Brewer said.

An Apple iPad, another top prize, went to Pam and Doug Wetzer. Other auction items included a weekend getaway at a New York apartment and dental packages from Mary Beth Moenssen of Dexter Orthodontics.

"Everyone had a great time," Brewer said. "Folks came early and stayed late."
