Back-to-Back SEC Games Prove Too Much for Dreadnaughts

The Dexter varsity boys' soccer team lost 2-1 against Ann Arbor Skyline on Wednesday.

After a convincing win over Ypsilanti Lincoln High School on Tuesday, the Dexter varsity soccer team traveled to Ann Arbor Skyline to face the Eagles for another SEC match on Wednesday.

The Eagles (8-1-2) had a strong start controlling most of the possession, as the Dreads worked to get occasional opportunities to attack the Skyline back line.

“We didn’t play good team defense which allowed the Eagles midfield to set the tempo for their attack," Dexter coach Scott Forrester said.

Shy of 19 minutes left in the first half, Skyline took advantage of a miss clear by one of the Dreads' defenders and fired it past Dreadnaught keeper Reese Moller.

Skyline took advantage of another Dexter mistake, as a shot was fired in, took a deflection to the far post and an unmarked Eagle for an easy three-yard shot for the 2-0 half-time advantage.

An energized Dreadnaught team started the second half. The effort was finally rewarded when Cory Poirier connected with his pass to Max Amann, who fired it into the net with just over 30 minutes to play.

“Any loss is disappointing when guiding this program with it’s tradition, however given the fact that these young men played two nights in a row, I’m proud of them," Forrester said. "The goals that were scored on us can’t happen at this level of play. Fortunately, these mistakes are correctable.

"I still don’t think that we have seen this team at its best, and we have an impressive record at this point in the season. This adversity will make us stronger and prepare us for the upcoming challenges.”

Dexter hosts the sixth ranked DeWitt Panthers on Saturday, with the junior varsity kick-off at 11 a.m., followed by the varsity kick-off at 12:30 p.m.
