Dexter Boys' Cross-Country Team Places First at SEC Jamboree No. 2

Dexter received 29 points with a strong showing at the Willow Metropark meet on Thursday.

The Dexter High School boys' varsity cross-country team placed first in the Southeast Conference Jamboree No. 2 at Willow Metropark on Sept. 27.

The Dreadnaughts won with 29 points, followed by Chelsea with 37 points.

"The top guys went into the meet looking to pace a handful of their teammates through 1.5 miles so they could pull them along to new personal records and also try to win the race without having to hammer another competition," coach Takashi Gould said. "The plan went well, as our 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th guys ran either a personal record or season best."

Joe Wendorf (16:33) edged out teammate Matt Greve (16:34.60) for the win.

"Its nice to see Joe back in full health and he looked and sounded very confident afterwards," Gould said.

Seniors Mike Hauke (16:56) and Blake Loudermilk (17:05.20) also performed well, along with sophomore Luke Bottomley (17:49.20).

"We have a full week of training before the Portage Invite," Gould said. "For the varsity guys, it's nice that we weren't in a position to have to run really hard. Now they can focus on their training and the upcoming big meet."
