Dexter Boys Varsity Cross County Team Wins SEC White Division Championship

Dreadnaught athletes plowed through local teams to take the division title on Thursday at Hudson Mills Metropark

Despite the wet, rainy weather, the varsity men's cross country team brought their "A game" to Hudson Mills Metropark and took first place at the SEC White Conference jamboree.

"It's a great feeling to be conference champions and to be able to add to the string of titles this program has won over the years," coach Takashi Gould said.

The Dexter men's team placed first with 22 points, followed by Chelsea (35 points), Adrian (93 points), Tecumseh (100 points), Ypsilanti Lincoln (135 points), and Ypsilanti (168 points).

"For our team to get four varsity members in the top five spots, and all seven receive some form of All-SEC recognition was great. It's a great confidence booster for us to win going into the regional meet. Now we have to shift our focus and be prepared to race against what will be a very tough field," Gould said.

For the men's team, Joe Wendorf placed second with a time of 16:36. Matt Greve (16:50), Taylor Neely (17:04 5) and Zack Dutcher (17:09) also placed in the top tier.

"Joe Wendorf ran an amazing race by getting himself in the mix up front early on. I thought he did a great job not being worried about leading the race at the beginning and held on really well," Gould said. "Matt (Greve) ran a gutsy race and did a great job keeping up with Joe (Wendorf) for the majority of the race. I know he's not satisfied with this particular race, but that describes his competitive attitude.

"Taylor (Neely) and Zack (Dutcher) did a great job working together. They were in a tough spot because they spotted themselves about 10-11 seconds behind Matt by the time they got to 2,000 meters, but then maintained their effort at a high level when they were alone through the majority of the race."
