Dexter Girls' Swimming Team Opens Season on a High Note

The Dreadnaughts place eighth in season opener in Saline.

Dexter’s girls’ swimming and diving team opened its season Thursday participating in the Ann Arbor Huron Relays. The Dreadnaughts ended up eighth with 274 points. Winning the meet was defending state champion Saline with 478 points.

In the 200 medley relay, the Dexter foursome of Emalie Taylor, Sarah Daugherty, Melissa Vesey and Murphy Hansen finished sixth in 2:00.53. Tracy Koenn, Hailey Sheats, Abby Mesaros and Claire Stetten touched 14th in 2:07.83, while Alea Atwell, Chante Liu, Katie Stilber and Caroline Rossini placed 20th in 2:22.81. Allison Schneider, Kristin Houghtaling, Emmah Boquette and Maggie Karacher ended up 25th in 2:27.94 for the Dreadnaughts.

In the 400 freestyle relay, Morgan Cole, Brianna Tingley, Lauren LaFontaine and Reagan Maisch placed eighth in 4:09.29 for Dexter. Shelby Scherdt, Allie Stilber, Alison Rossini and Schneider finished 14th in 4:22.06.

Molly Keenan, Bridget Morgan, Mesaros and Vesey placed fifth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:35.08, while Claire Stetten, Daugherty, Koenn and Maisch ended up 10th in 4:41.89.

Mesaros, Koenn, Keenan and Vesey finished eighth in the 200 butterfly relay in 2:01.35, while Katie Stilber, Boquette, Tingley and LaFontaine placed 11th in 2:05.34 for the Dreadnaughts.

In the 200 backstroke relay, the Dexter quartet of Allison Franz, Maisch, Morgan and Taylor placed fourth in 2:01.81, while Katie Stilber, Allie Stilber, Michelle Brouwer and Atwell touched 14th in 2:18.29.

In the 800 freestyle relay, Franz, Cole, Keenan and Morgan finished fifth with a clocking of 8:34.34, while Caroline Rossini, Alison Rossini, Tingley and Scherdt placed 13th in 9:27.95.

Alison Rossini, Houghtaling, Brouwer and LaFontaine finished 13th in the 200 breaststroke relay with a time of 2:45.09.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Franz, Taylor, Cole and Hansen placed seventh in 1:48.50, while Brouwer, Liu, Schneider and Sheats ended up 15th in 2:04.43 and Caroline Rossini, Allie Stilber, Scherdt and Houghtaling finished 24th in 2:05.32 for the Dreadnaughts.

Dexter next hosts Milan 6 p.m. Sept. 13.

On Sept. 15, the Dreadnaughts travel to Monroe for a meet at 6 p.m.
