Dexter Varsity Hockey Team Suffers First Loss of Season

The Chelsea Bulldogs swept past Dexter with a 6-1 victory on Saturday.

Dexter hockey suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday losing to county rival Chelsea, 6-1.

The Bulldogs jumped on the Dreadnaughts (5-1) early taking a 1-0 first period lead before increasing their margin to 3-0 heading into the third period. Chelsea scored three goals to secure its victory late in the third period.

Scoring Dexter’s lone goal was Ian Wiesenberg. Assisting on the play for the Dreadnaughts was Jimmy Lewendowski and Jake Waldrup.

Also last week, Dexter defeated Woodhaven 8-6.

The Dreadnaughts led 1-0 in the first period and scored three goals in the second period. The Warriors exploded for six goals in the second period taking a 6-4 advantage into the third frame. Dexter regrouped in the third period scoring four unanswered goals for the night’s final margin.

Wiesenberg led the Dreadnaught attack with four goals and one assist.

Waldrup added one goal and five assists, while Tristin Rojeck had two goals and one assist and Evan Morrison had one goal for Dexter.

Earning the victory in net for the Dreads was goaltender Garrett Weng.

On Nov. 23, Dexter defeated Pinckney 7-6.

The Dreadnaughts led 6-4 entering the third period.

Waldrup and Rojeck each scored three goals for the hat trick and had two assists to pace Dexter. Wiesenberg chipped in one goal, while Andrew Gibson, Brian Lim and Tucker Brust each recorded an assist for the Dreadnaughts.

Earning the win between the posts for Dexter was goalie Cameron Rooks.
