Dexter Little League Offers Online Registration

Parents can sign up their children from home to play baseball.

The snow is melting and the sun is out. Spring hasn’t officially begun yet, but chances are it is on everyone’s mind. Spring brings with it the all-American pastime of baseball, and Dexter Little League is gearing up for another fun-filled season.

Registration is now entirely online and runs through Tuesday. Little League officials said participation was down slightly last year. They are hoping the online registration format provides an increase this year. Past years have boasted more than 400 players.

“We see a lot of repeat players because we have dedicated coaches," said Tracy Hilobuk, league player agent.

“We group the kids according to their ability. They will play in their own age bracket," she said.

Teams will practice and play games weekly. The baseball and T-ball teams do not travel, but the girls’ softball teams will travel to local communities, Hilobuk said.

The season opens April 23 with the league’s annual opening day extravaganza at . There will be flower and bake sales to help raise funds for the league, games, concessions and a parade. All players will participate in the parade, marching behind banners representing their teams.

“We really enjoy not only the baseball but the feeling of community we have with all the other Dexter parents and families,” said Lisa Tomshany of Dexter, a longtime Little League mother.
