Dexter Volleyball Team Goes 0-3 at Bedford Tournament

The Dreadnaughts return to the court Tuesday for a match at Saline.

The volleyball team competed in the Temperance Bedford Invitational on Friday. The Dreadnaughts began the tournament by finishing first in pool play with a 2-0 record. Outside pool play, however, Dexter ended up 0-3, losing to Monroe St. Mary’s Catholic Central, Ida and Mt. Morris high schools.

On Aug. 30, the Dreadnaughts finished the Southeastern Conference White Division jamboree with a 4-1 overall record.

Coach Erin Penn said the jamboree mirrored last year’s league race.

“It was a repeat of our Southeastern Conference season last year,” she said. “We were undefeated except for Tecumseh—and Tecumseh beat everyone.”

At the jamboree, the Dreadnaughts defeated Ypsilanti, Adrian, Ypsilanti Lincoln and Chelsea high schools. Dexter’s lone loss was against Tecumseh.

“I think we psyched ourselves out before we even stepped on the court against Tecumseh,” Penn said. “It’s disappointing, because we don’t really know how we stack up against them now. It would have been nice to give ourselves a better showing.”

The Dreadnaughts travel to Saline on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match. On Sept. 20, Dexter hosts Adrian at 7 p.m. On Sept. 24, the Dreadnaughts will participate in the University of Michigan-Dearborn Invitational.
