With less than six minutes left in the first half, South Lyon took advantage of some poor defending and scored with 5:32 on the clock. The second half started much like the first half with both teams having good ball possession.  Dexter continued to attack the Cougar defense but to no avail.

“South Lyon began to feel the pressure and lost their composure,” said Dexter coach Scott Forrester.

Finally a foul was called against the Cougars 24 yards from their goal. Amann stepped up for the free kick and sent it to the upper corner of the net past the keeper for the equalizing goal.

With time running out, Dexter earned a corner kick. Nils Valdmanis served the ball into the far post for the lead. Bobby Toth received a pass from Amann and fired it past the South Lyon keeper, with 53 seconds left in the game.

“These young men showed a lot of character. Down late in the game, they never gave up,” said Forrester.

The Dreadnaughts will face Marshall on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Dexter is now 17-5-3 on the season.
