Dreadnaught Boys Fend Off Pinckney for Second Shut Out of the Season

The Dexter High School boys soccer team defeated Pinckney 2-0 on Monday and will play Monroe on Sept. 6.

The Dexter Dreadnaughts' varsity boys soccer team held off a strong offensive attack from Pinckney on Monday for a 2-0 shutout.

The Dreads had solid control of the ball, which provided numerous fouls for Pinckney throughout the night.

“The fouls slowed the game down but we were also challenged with the high line at which their backs played,” Dexter coach Scott Forrester said. “We were frustrated by it numerous time but both our goals took advantage of this tactic.”

The tactic worked up until less than nine minutes left in the half, when Bobby Toth took a long ball played in by back Levi Kipke and fired it through the hands of the Pinckney keeper.

Another ball that pierced the offside line put forward Andrew Foghel in behind the defense with only the keeper to beat. As Foghel played the ball past the onrushing keeper, the keeper tripped him. The resulting penalty-kick was awarded along with a caution to the Pirates.

Bryce Pederson stepped to the penalty spot and finished it with 1:03 left in the half. The 2-0 lead was taken into the second half and Pinckney did its best with offensive surges. Despite Pinckney's offense, the Dreadnaughts held fast and fended off the attack.

The Dreadnaughts improved their record to 3-2-1 and earned their second shut-out in a row lead by keeper Rhys Moller.

“Rhys (Moller), Owen Brooks, Levi Kipke, Evan Burke and Luke Bazick, went the distance to earn a well deserved shut-out. This was a solid team effort on both sides of the ball, defensively and offensively," Forrester said.

Dexter has the rest of the week off and returns to action when they host Monroe on Sept. 6 for their first league match of the season.
