Dreadnaughts Record Hard Loss Against Huron
Ann Arbor Huron slams Dexter with a 65-46 victory in a strong offensive game.
The Dexter Dreadnaughts' varisty football team lost to host Ann Arbor Huron 65-46 in a Southeastern Conference match up at Riverbank Stadium Friday night.
Huron (1-2) scored on its first two possessions of the opening quarter as senior quarterback Alex Hassan hit pay dirt on a 1-yard sneak and sophomore tailback Javaid Love (5-foot-9, 185 pounds) sprinted in from 17 yards out for a touchdown. Senior Ryan Embree kicked both extra points for an early 14-0 River Rat lead.
Dexter (1-2) answered with a 36-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Mike Mioduszewski to senior receiver Jay Lewis. Senior Hank Dreffs split the uprights bringing the Dreadnaughts closer at 14-7 with 3:04 left in the first quarter.

After a Huron three-and-out punt, Dexter needed only two plays to score as senior Alex Mortensen hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Mioduszewski making the score 14-13 River Rats with 1:25 remaining in the first quarter.
On Huron’s first play of the second quarter, Love exploded for a 38-yard touchdown run. Embree hit the extra point, increasing the River Rats’ lead to 21-13 with 10:58 left in the first half.

After a Dexter fumble, Huron senior running back Parish Jacobs scored on a 4-yard scamper up the middle. Embree’s kick was good giving the River Rats a 28-13 advantage.
Mioduszewski answered for the Dreads on their next possession scoring on a 61-yard run. The two-point conversion run by senior Jacob Stegemann was good enough to close the Huron lead to 28-21 with 6:53 left in the second quarter.
Embree nailed a 35-yard field goal, upping the River Rat margin to 31-21. After a Dexter punt, Jacobs scored on a 5-yard run. Senior Dorian Williams caught the two-point conversion pass from Hassan, increasing Huron’s lead to 39-21 with 2:17 remaining in the first half.
On the Dreads’ following drive, Mioduszewski scored on a 24-yard run with 53 seconds left in the second quarter. With the touchdown, Dexter trailed 39-27. Two plays into Huron’s next possession, senior Jacob Van Hoof intercepted a River Rat pass deep in Dreadnaught territory. With 22 seconds left on the first half clock, Mioduszewski ran 29 yards down to the Huron 47-yard line. On Dexter’s next play, Mioduszewski connected with Mortensen for 42 yards down to the River Rat 5-yard line. After a time out, Mioduszewski found Mortensen all alone at the back of the end zone for a touchdown as time expired in the second quarter. With the score, Dexter entered the locker room down 39-33.
On the first play of the third quarter, Love recorded his third touchdown of the night running 53 yards for a score, upping Huron’s lead to 45-33.
After a Dexter three-and-out punt, the River Rats needed only three plays to score as Love barreled in from two yards out for touchdown No. 4 and a 51-33 Huron advantage.
The Dreads responded with a Stegemann 2-yard run on their next possession, cutting the River Rat lead to 51-39 with 7:02 remaining in the third quarter.
With 3:38 left in the third frame, Jacobs scored on a 40-yard touchdown run. Embree’s point after touchdown was good, giving Huron a 58-39 lead.
Jacobs scored his fourth touchdown on a 6-yard run with 11:28 remaining in the fourth quarter. Embree’s extra point was successful giving the River Rats a 65-39 advantage.
Dreffs caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Miodeszewski with 8:41 left in the game. Dreffs kicked the extra point for the night’s final 65-46 margin.
Mioduszewski finished with four touchdown passes and two touchdown runs to lead Dexter offensively.
The Dreadnaughts next host Adrian (2-1) 7 p.m. Sept. 16. Prior to kickoff, Dexter will dedicate its new fieldhouse to longtime team manager Henry Thurston.
