From Tornado to Triumph: Dexter Varsity Lacrosse Team Wins SEC White Division Second Year in a Row

Six Dexter High School athletes sign with lacrosse programs at the collegiate level.

After suffering through a this spring, the Dexter community continues to carry on. The Dexter High School varsity lacrosse boys' team was not only on the practice field just prior to the deadly storm's arrival, but several of the players' families suffered extensive damage to their homes, and one player actually had his home completely destroyed by the storm.

The team and the entire lacrosse program quickly mobilized into a highly motivated cleanup crew and immediately came to the aid of the affected families.

Although the storm disrupted many things in Dexter, it did not derail the Dexter men's lacrosse team. The team posted a regular season record of 16-1 under the direction of Coach Brian Callanan, and won the SEC White Division title for the second year in a row.

Coach Callanan is especially proud of his senior players whose leadership, dedication and "esprit de corps" played a major role in the team's success. On this year's team, six players from the three-year-old program will be going on to play college lacrosse.

"This is a very special group of young men, as a result of their true dedication and commitment, both on the field and in the classroom, they have achieved something really special," Callanan said. "It's truly been an honor to watch them grow into confident, strong and focused young men who really understand the importance of hard work, tenacity and that sacrifice is sometimes necessary to reach their goals.

"These young men exemplify our team motto: 'Never settle for mediocrity. Be the one.' These young men have truly set the bar high for those to follow; I am extremely proud of them. For me it's never been about wins and losses, it's always been about helping young men to believe in themselves and believe that they can accomplish anything they set their minds too."
