Rain Delays Are Costly for Dexter's Baseball Team

Dexter drops loss to Huron High School over weekend doubleheader.

After 19 days of setbacks due to inclement weather, Dexter baseball finally got back to the diamond this weekend. The Dreadnaughts lost to host Ann Arbor Huron 10-3 and tied the River Rats 3-3 in a Southeastern Conference doubleheader.

With the long layoff between games, Dexter coach Don Little said his squad needed to find its legs again.

“We definitely showed signs of rust,” he said. “We haven’t been able to practice outside in over a week.”

In the opener, the Dreadnaughts allowed 10 runs on 11 hits with two errors. Pitcher Joel Gowen absorbed the loss from the mound for Dexter.

“Joel hadn’t pitched in 19 days, so he was a little flat,” Little said. “I know he will snap back. He’s a solid pitcher.”

Offensively for the Dreads, Mike Mioduszewski and Jake Stegemann each belted out two hits, while Justin Hart added a double and two RBIs.

In the second game, Dexter led 3-2 in the final inning before yielding the game-tying run on an error and a passed ball. Zack Byron started for the Dreadnaughts on the hill before giving way to Bryce Walls and Ian Boyd. Byron was removed from the game because of arm trouble.

“Zack was throwing well,” Little said. “It was too bad he had to come out.”

With the bat, Hart led Dexter’s attack with four hits and two RBIs.

The Dreadnaughts next host SEC White Division foe Ypsilanti Lincoln for a doubleheader today at 4 p.m.
