Humane Society of Huron Valley Offers $35 Spay, Neuter Surgery for Cats

The humane society has received a 15 percent increase in the number of unwanted and stray cats and kittens since January.

The Humane Society of Huron Valley is seeing a 15 percent increase in the numbers of unwanted and stray cats and kittens coming through the animal intake doors so far in 2012.

In an effort to elevate the feline overpopulation problem, HSHV is holding a $35 cat or kitten spay or neuter surgery special through the end of August. This low cost surgery is available to all people in Southeast Michigan while appointments last. Call 1-888-HSHVFIX or 1-888- 474-8349 to schedule your appointment. Some vaccinations may be needed prior to surgery. HSHV has a full-service veterinary clinic open to the public.

“As much as we promote affordable spay and neuter surgery, we keep thinking that the numbers of kittens and cats will begin to decline. Unfortunately our community continues to have a huge feline overpopulation problem," Karie McMahon, HSHV animal intake coordinator said. "Because we are at capacity in the shelter right now, we really need people to call ahead if they have cats or kittens that they can’t care for. And of course, we encourage people to adopt a shelter cat or kitten when they are ready to bring a new pet into their family."
