Weekend Planner: Ladies Day at the Saline Community Fair

Here's a look at some fun family-friendly activities going on in Washtenaw County this weekend.

From live music to fishing and festivals, there is plenty going on around Washtenaw County this weekend to entertain the kids.

The Saline Community Fair continues this weekend. Friday is Ladies. Ages 11 and up, $7. Ladies 11 or older $5 until 1 p.m. The fair is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday is children's day. Ages 11 and up, $7. For a complete schedule of events, visit http://salinefair.org/events.htm

  • Dexter Summer Concert Series

The free summer concert series wraps up in Dexter on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Monument Park. Tonight's concert features the Jake Reichbart Trio.

  • Bird Hike at Hudson Mills Metropark

A nature bird hike will take place at the park on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. The fee is $3 per person. Preregistration and prepayment required for all programs. For additional information or to register for programs at the Hudson Mills Metropark Activity Center, call 734-426-8211.

  • Free Dinosaur Tours

Join museum staff on a free 30-minute tour of dinosaur country in this interactive exhibit at the University of Michigan Exhibit Museum of Natural History, 2 p.m. Saturday.

  • Labor Day Weekend Country Style Breakfast

St Mary’s Men’s Club in Pinckney is sponsoring its annual Labor Day Weekend Country Breakfast at the parish, 10601 Dexter-Pinckney Road in Putnam Township on Sunday. Breakfast is served 8:30-11 a.m. and is a free-will donation.

Proceeds will be used to help support the maintenance of the parish kitchen. The menu includes fried or scrambled eggs, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, French toast, pancakes, quiche, ham, pork sausage, and a waffle station.

  • Spring Valley Trout Farm tours

 sits on 20 acres of carefully maintained grounds in a park setting. Visitors can stroll in the park, which includes 9 spring fed ponds ranging from a 1/2 acre to an acre in size. On these grounds are located two  covered picnic pavilions which seat up to 100 people each, a children's play area, and an authentic American log cabin, used as a fishing lodge with Handicap restrooms and snack bar. The cabin is available for your groups visit and is a replica of fishing cabins from the north. Admission is $5.

  • Play a game of laser tag

Drop-in laser tag players are always welcome at  in Dexter. You can play laser tag with as little as two or as many as 14 people per game. The arcade is open from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

  • Tours of Rentschler Farm and Saline Railroad Depot Museums

On Saturday and Sunday the Rentschler Farm and Saline Railroad Depot Museums, 1265 E. Michigan Ave., are open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The farm animals have returned, young lambs and their ewes, as well as baby pigs, Trixie and Dixie. At the depot museum, visit the fully furnished caboose.
