The Forest Lawn Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Dexter created by Samuel William Dexter in the mid-19th century andMore serves as the resting place of early leaders of the community including Dexter himself as well as Harrison H. Jeffords and Calvin Fillmore. It was originally open to the public until the establishment of the Dexter Cemetery Association in 1842 when shareholders began buying plots. The Forest Lawn Cemetery of Dexter, Inc. was later established as a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the site. It is supported by funding from sales of lots, investments, donations, bequests and volunteer assistance.
