Dexter Delays Search for New Superintendent

The Board of Education said it would like to take some more time to look at candidates before conducting interviews.

The Dexter Community Schools Board of Education has decided to take some more time before picking a new superintendent. According to the school district website, the board has decided to continue the preliminary superintendent search activities before selecting candidates for interviews. A note from Larry Cobler, president of the school board, states that the Michigan Leadership Institute's Michael Wilmot will conduct further research on candidates and the board will continue to review the progress and decide soon on a revised search schedule. Barbara Read Wins Partial Term on Dexter School Board

The Dexter mom will join the school board as a trustee in January.

Dexter resident Barbara Read defeated incumbent Chris Gordon for the partial-term trustee seat on the Dexter Community Schools Board of Education. Read received 2,433 votes to Gordon's 2,077 votes, according to unofficial results from Washtenaw County. Incumbents Larry Cobler and Bonnie Everdeen were also re-elected in an uncontested race for a six-year term each. Cobler received 3,468 votes, and Everdeen received 3,629 votes. Read said she is a grateful to all of the voters and supporters who came out to the polls on Election Day. "Right now I'm feeling grateful. Race to Watch: Gordon, Read Face-Off for Dexter School Board Trustee

Dexter resident Barbara Read is challenging incumbent Chris Gordon for a seat on the Board of Education.

While all eyes have been on the race between President Obama and Mitt Romney, locally the outcomes of several elections could change the makeup of boards and councils in Dexter. One race to watch is the election for a part-time position on the Dexter Community Schools Board of Education. Current incumbent Chris Gordon faces Dexter resident Barbara Read in the race. Gordon was picked by the board to replace trustee Kim Covert in February.
