Those occasional spring-like days can make a green thumb itch. However, it's still too early to start planting outside. But it isn't too early to start buying seeds, said Keri Romine, manager of Dexter Mill. She said selecting the seeds and getting them started is appropriate for this time of the year. "Everyone has been getting their seeds," she said. "Herb seeds are one of the first things we run out of." After purchasing the right seeds, whether for flowers, basil, kale or tomatoes, Romine said to start them in indoor greenhouses. The indoor greenhouses are small planters, some that come with soil mix, that are great for starting seedlings. "But you have to plan to move them up to the next size planter," she said. The weekend barbecue stand will be open on Sundays through September next to the Dexter Mill.
It's Sunday morning and you're feeling a little peckish after church. Don't worry. Just mosey on down to the tracks by the Dexter Mill and meet up with the Hickman Hotel gang at their Chuckwagon Barbecue stand and let Danny Murphy and his team fill you up with great barbecue. Along with ribs, pulled pork or sausage, there's a variety of side dishes including baked beans, cole slaw, and apple cobbler.
