Dexter Mill Says to Get Seeds for Spring Now

Keri Romine, manager of Dexter Mill, said seeds can be prepared indoors first.

Those occasional spring-like days can make a green thumb itch. However, it's still too early to start planting outside. But it isn't too early to start buying seeds, said Keri Romine, manager of Dexter Mill. She said selecting the seeds and getting them started is appropriate for this time of the year. "Everyone has been getting their seeds," she said. "Herb seeds are one of the first things we run out of." After purchasing the right seeds, whether for flowers, basil, kale or tomatoes, Romine said to start them in indoor greenhouses. The indoor greenhouses are small planters, some that come with soil mix, that are great for starting seedlings. "But you have to plan to move them up to the next size planter," she said. 12 Days of Christmas: Shop Michigan Made Products at Dexter Mill

Each day through Dec. 24 Patch will feature a sale or special going on in Dexter and Chelsea for last-minute holiday shoppers.

If you've still got Christmas gifts to buy and no ideas, don't panic. From now through Dec. 24, Patch will feature one local deal, business, or charity to help making your gift-giving a little easier. Today's local gift idea comes from the Dexter Mill. Store Manager Keri Romine says the store has the perfect gift for moms, dads, grandparents, and even Fido. "We have a lot of Michigan-made products and products made in the United States," Romine said. The mill boasts a large selection of dog beds, bird feeders, Michigan-made honey and food products, Stormy Kromer brand hats and mittens, flannel shirts, Fox River socks, and West Paw dog toys, among others. Chuckwagon Barbecue Opens Summer Stand in Dexter

The weekend barbecue stand will be open on Sundays through September next to the Dexter Mill.

It's Sunday morning and you're feeling a little peckish after church. Don't worry. Just mosey on down to the tracks by the Dexter Mill and meet up with the Hickman Hotel gang at their Chuckwagon Barbecue stand and let Danny Murphy and his team fill you up with great barbecue. Along with ribs, pulled pork or sausage, there's a variety of side dishes including baked beans, cole slaw, and apple cobbler. Rolls are freshly delivered each Sunday morning from Zingerman's Bakehouse. This "Taste of Texas" will be available every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September.
