Shawn Keough retained his seat as village president by a 288-vote margin on Tuesday. Dexter resident Julie Knight will join the council as a trustee.
Shawn Keough retained his seat as president of the Dexter Village Council by a 288-vote margin in the Nov. 6 election, according to unofficial results. Keough garnerned 1,051 votes to challenger Jim Carson, who received 763 votes. "I want to thank all the people who voted and supported my campaign," Carson said. "I am very grateful to be part of the first contested election for village president since 1998. The residents had the opportunity to share their voice, and it was very clear what choice they wanted. "I am still on the village council as a trustee, and I expect to go back to work doing the things I've done for the last nine years as a trustee. I'm happy to serve on the council." Shawn Keough and Jim Carson are running for the open position on the Dexter Village Council during the Nov. 6 general election.
With the general election less than two months away, candidates for the Dexter Village Council are beefing up their campaigns, going door-to-door to talk with residents about issues affecting the community. This year, there are four candidates seeking election to three open trustee seats on the council. In addition Clerk Carol Jones is running unopposed, and a separate race for village president will pit incumbent Shawn Keough against current council trustee Jim Carson for the top seat. Keough, who has served as president since 2007, is seeking a second full term on the board. Dexter resident Shawn Keough says he is proud of the village's accomplishments during the last four years and will seek re-election in November.
Prior to Monday's village council meeting, Dexter Village President Shawn Keough officially announced his bid to seek re-election in November. “I’ve been asked by some of you, ‘What are my intentions for next year?’” he said. “I wanted all of you hear at the same time, rather than some people knowing and some people maybe feeling slighted if they didn’t know or find out. So, my intention was to disclose today what my plans were.” As was previously reported, Trustee Jim Carson filed paperwork in early July to run for the village presidency. Jim Carson has my vote also. Mr. Carson has proven that he is a leader that will listen and consider everyone's views. He is a reasonable and compasionate person who will do a good job as village president.   more ›
