Wild West Adventures Barbecue to Open in Former Jake's BBQ Shack Location

The Dexter Village Council approved a two-year lease of the village's building at 8050 Main St. on Monday.

A new restaurant is opening its doors in downtown Dexter following approval from the Dexter Village Council on Monday. The council voted 7-0 to approve a two-year lease agreement with Scot Thomas for the property located at 8050 Main St. Thomas will open Wild West Barbecue Adventures, a barbecue takeout restaurant featuring homemade southern-style comfort food. The building was previously leased by Bart Aniolczyk, who operated Jake's BBQ Shack before filing for bankruptcy earlier this year. Village Manager Donna Dettling said the village received six inquiries to lease the space, including three food businesses, an insurance office, and a women's clothing boutique and gift shop. Jake's BBQ Shack Closes, Owner Files Bankruptcy

The Dexter restaurant closed its doors abruptly on July 26 citing lack of sales in the community.

Jake's BBQ Shack, located at 8050 Main St. in downtown Dexter, has closed its doors indefinitely. According to Village Manager Donna Dettling, the restaurant closed on July 26 and owner Bart Aniolczyk has since filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. "He didn't notify the village properly that he was closing, so we found out the hard way," Dettling said. She said the village contacted Aniolczyk in August after a sign was placed on the restaurant door indicating it had closed. "He basically indicated to us that he wasn't making any money and that he wasn't coming back," Dettling said. Jake's BBQ Shack Opens, Brings Southern Comfort Food to Dexter

The new restaurant will feature classic barbecue and comfort foods with a southern twist for lunch and dinner.

Jake's BBQ Shack is bringing the familiar smells and flavors of smokey sweet barbecue to downtown Dexter. Operated by Ann Arbor resident Bart Aniolczyk, the restaurant opened up last week at 8050 Main St., the former location of Hazel's Home Cookin'. Previously Aniolczyk operated Jake's Place, a homemade Polish cuisine takeout restaurant, at the location, however slow customer sales, coupled by the Dexter tornado and the village's Main Street repavement project, forced the restaurant in a different direction. "It was somewhat of a blessing in disguise," Aniolczyk said about the decision to close for three months. "The European menu wasn't popular, and as a result it confused a lot of customers."
