Libby Brushaber defeats Dana Bullen for the township treasurer position.
With 100 percent of its precincts reporting, voters in Dexter Township have re-elected incumbent Supervisor Pat Kelly to another four-year term. Kelly defeated Republican Jim Drolett, 1,818 to 1,737, according to unofficial results provided by the township. "I want to thank all the people who supported me," Kelly said Tuesday night. "I look forward to finishing up the public safety agenda and taking a long hard look at the roads in our communities to figure out a solution." Drolett declined to comment on the election, but said he would like to thank his supporters in the township. Republican Libby Brushaber defeated Democrat Dana Bullen 1,817 votes to Bullen's 1,633 in the township treasurer race. "I would like to thank the voters of …

Well, I have tried to keep the upcoming elections in Dexter Township on a positive note, relying on my previous experience and past dedication to the residents of Dexter Township and the area, but now comes a letter from Mr. Ehman which at best is confusing and at worse is typical of him. At the time I took office as supervisor in 1984, Mr. Ehman was sitting as the chairman of both the Zoning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals. Because of onerous decisions made by those boards, at least three members of the five-member township board voted not to reappoint him to those positions and it's been sour grapes for him every since. In 1988, the good people of Portage Lake came to me to ask if the township would do a sewer project for them as …

Dear Editor: As a Dexter Township resident, I feel the township is in great need of new leadership. That is why I’m asking you to vote for Jim Drolett for township supervisor and Libby Brushaber for township treasurer. Libby Brushaber has served local government for decades. Libby is currently a Dexter Township trustee and recently retired as managing director of Multi-Lakes Sewer Authority. Libby has also served on the Dexter Township Planning Commission and Dexter Area Fire Authority Board. Libby is a long-time resident and brings a lot of experience to the position of township treasurer, which I believe is extremely important in handling the tax dollars we entrust to Dexter Township. Dana Bullen has lived in Dexter Township less than …

Dear Editor: Dexter Township residents will choose a supervisor this election, and party politics have nothing to do with qualifications or expected agendas. The last time James Drolett ran for re-election as supervisor, he was defeated by John Sdao, a complete novice to public service, because Mr. Drolett had lost his focus as a public servant. Specifically, when the sewer project for Portage and Baseline Lakes, chaired by Mr. Drolett was before the public for consideration, the public was so distrustful of the representations made that a group was able to stop the project with a referendum vote, leaving Dexter Township holding the bag for the to-date project costs. The township trustees had to select a new representative, who Mr. Drolett…

Dear Editor: I have known Jim Drolett for several years and have been impressed with his abilities as a previous Dexter Township supervisor and as a fellow member on a variety of boards that serve the communities in this area. One example of his ability to solve difficult problems arose when he was the chairman for the Chelsea Area Construction Agency (CACA). During the time that the economy was spiraling downward, Jim was the chairman of the Chelsea Area Construction Agency Board. This is an agency established to perform building inspections for six municipalities including Lyndon and Dexter townships. The economic slow down began to take its toll on the agency's budget with expenses exceeding revenues. There was a concern that the agency…

Incumbent Pat Kelly will face Republican challenger Jim Drolett on the Nov. 6 ballot.
The race for the Dexter Township supervisor position features plenty of experience on both sides of the political aisle. Current incumbent Pat Kelly is completing her second full term in the supervisor's seat, and will face former supervisor Jim Drolett, who served on the board from 1984-1996. Kelly, who has lived near the township for 40 years, said she is seeking a fourth term in order to complete projects the board started four years ago — namely the construction of a permanent fire station. "The fire station is really important to me. We're not done. I want to make sure it's finished," she said. Kelly said if voters pass a 1-mill tax levy for seven years on the Nov. 6 ballot, the substation at the corner of Dexter Town Hall and North …

I strongly support Barbara Read for the School Board. I have known Barbara longer than anyone in Dexter. While admittedly biased, I can vouch that Barbara will be an excellent member of the School Board. She is smart, she listens, she works hard, she cares about the schools and the students, and she is independent. She will be an asset to the Board and the community. The issues that she has …   more ›
