Live Reindeer Entertains Youth at Library
Community outreach programs target kids, teens.
Children of all ages got a rare chance to get up close and personal with a reindeer during the Dexter District Library's holiday story time and craft event on Dec. 20. More than 100 families filled the library's parking lot to catch a glimpse and take photos of the reindeer brought to Dexter by Carousel Acres in South Lyon. Visitors also participated in an hour-long Christmas sing-a-long and ornament making workshop hosted by librarian Linda Westphal. "We try to do a fun drop-in storytime event at least once a month," Cathy Jurich, head of youth services said. "Our normal storytimes require registration because they fill up so fast, so we try to accommodate everyone for our special events." Jurich said live animal events are some of …
