The Dexter Community Schools Board of Education has decided to take some more time before picking a new superintendent. According to the school district website, the board has decided to continue the preliminary superintendent search activities before selecting candidates for interviews. A note from Larry Cobler, president of the school board, states that the Michigan Leadership Institute's Michael Wilmot will conduct further research on candidates and the board will continue to review the progress and decide soon on a revised search schedule. Mary Marshall will leave Dexter at the end of December to pursue a job as superintendent in Pentwater, Mich.
The Dexter Community Schools Board of Education recognized Superintendent Mary Marshall for her service to the school district Monday during a brief presentation. Marshall, who will leave the district after 19 years for a job in Pentwater, Mich., served as a high school teacher, assistant principal at Dexter High School, sixth grade teacher, Creekside Intermediate principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent at Dexter Schools. The board presented Marshall with a plaque and proclamation for her years of employment in Dexter. The former superintendent from Riverview is being vetted to fill a vacancy in the Dexter Community Schools district beginning Jan. 1, 2013.
Dexter Community Schools faculty and staff will have the opportunity to meet with Dennis Desmarias, the district's candidate for interim superintendent, at an informal meet and greet on Friday. Desmarias, a former superintendent from Riverview Community School District, will tour the district and talk with building principals, support staff, and union representatives as part of the superintendent search committee's interview process. "We know we need to have an interim superintendent in the district by the time (Superintendent Mary Marshall) leaves at the end of December," school board president Larry Cobler said. DEXTER — With Dexter Community Schools' Superintendent Mary Marshall leaving the district before the end of the 2012-2013 school year, preliminary search plans are underway to find a replacement. The school board could be accepting applications for a new superintendent in early January and will likely operate a portion of the school year with an interim superintendent, Board President Larry Cobler told the Dexter Leader. The Dexter superintendent has entered into contract negotiations with the Pentwater Public Schools Board of Education following a job interview on Wednesday.
PENTWATER — The Pentwater Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously Wednesday night to enter into contract negotiations with Mary Marshall, superintendent of Dexter Community Schools to become the new superintendent/principal of Pentwater Public Schools. According to the Ludington Daily News, Marshall was picked over three other candidates following her interview Wednesday night.
