Here are some nuggets of truths offered by Patch readers, including Nancy Czarny of Chesterfield Township - winner of Patch's Mother's Day Contest.
For as long as she can remember, Nancy Czarny's mother has been giving her simple advice to get through life. "Do what you know is right" are the six simple words that Czarny, the winner - chosen randomly - of Patch's 2012 Mother's Day Contest, remembers her mother saying most frequently. "That's what she would tell me when I was a young girl having problems with things at school or issues with friends or jobs, when I was older," recalls Czarny, of Chesterfield Township. "In essence, she was she telling me to follow my gut, do what I know is right." It's the same advice Czarny passes on to her 6-year-old daughter. "I tell her to be who she is. And to do what she knows is right and not to follow what others are doing." Last week, we asked …

Here's a few thoughts on how you can show your mom how much she means to you on Sunday, and everyday.
Don’t forget, Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 8! I need to go and get my mom a card as well. For her gift, I am taking my mom, who just turned 84, and my three girls to a mother/daughter retreat. Three generations will come together for new memories and lots of laughter. Last year, I took the two oldest girls, and we laughed so hard, tears were coming out of our eyes. That’s the best gift you can give to your mom – just spend some time with her, and listen to her stories for a change. Ask her about her younger days. Last year I bought a guided mom/grandma journal for myself and my mom to record our hopes, dreams and stories -- I don’t think either one of us has even touched it! And one day, it will be too late to write things down. So, …

Proceeds from the plant sales benefit community beautification projects and gardening grants.
Get your trowels ready. The annual Dexter Garden Club plant sale will take place on Saturday at Monument Park. The sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features perennial plants from club members' own gardens. Other selections include trees, herbs, hostas, daylillies, ornamental grasses, calendula, coral bells, balloon flower, geraniums, and ferns. "We will have about 3,000 plants this year," member Kathleen Stevenson said. "The sale has really expanded over the last two years." Stevenson said proceeds from the sale helps fund scholarships for students, grants and beautification projects around the village. "This is our only fundraiser, and it's usually well attended," she said. "We sell out of our plants every year." The Chelsea…
