Update: Severe Weather Drill Today at 1 p.m.; Oakland County Test Cancelled

The National Weather Service will conduct a test tornado drill Wednesday at 1 p.m. as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The National Weather Service is urging people to practice their tornado safety measures during a special drill Wednesday at 1 p.m. The tornado drill is part of the National Weather Service's Severe Weather Awareness Week. The drill will be held throughout the state of Michigan. According to a release from the organization, the National Weather Service will use its routine weekly test on NOAA weather radio all hazards to simulate an actual tornado waring. Snow, Cold Front Moving Into Dexter Area Today

Forecasters predict 1 to 3 inches of snow Saturday in southeast Michigan.

Make plans for a wintry Saturday in Dexter and Chelsea. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Washtenaw County and all of southeast Michigan for all of Saturday. A cold front pushing through the area will bring scattered snow storms and a total accumulation of 1 to 3 inches, according to the special weather statement. Today's high is expected to be 28 degrees; a low of 8 degrees Saturday night is expected, with a wind chill as low as -2 in the forecast.  On Sunday, sunny skies are predicted, though the cold temperatures will remain in the low 20s. There is a 70 percent chance of rain on Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for parts of southeast Michigan, including Washtenaw County, beginning Thursday evening and lasting into Friday morning. Up to 3 inches of snow could fall Thursday night in the Dexter and Chelsea area, with less than an inch of additional accumulation possible Friday morning, the forecasting agency warns. Sleet also may mix with the snow Thursday night, according to the NWS. "Visibilities under one-quarter mile will be possible Thursday afternoon and Thursday night," the forecasting agency warned. Rapidly Falling Temperatures Will Bring Wind Gusts, Icy Roads Tonight

Temperatures will drop into the low 20s tonight in Chelsea and Dexter.

The story of southeast Michigan's wild January weather continues tonight, as forecasters call for a 30-degree temperature drop accompanied by high winds and snow. In the Dexter and Chelsea areas — as in all across southeast Michigan — we've experienced snow, sleet, rain, fog and even thunder this week.  It was 48 degrees at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Washtenaw County. Tonight, according to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to drop to the low 20s. There is a 90 percent chance of snow in Dexter and Chelsea beginning tonight. The hazardous weather outlook calls for "gusty winds" of up to 40 to 45 mph as well as icy conditions on the roads. The ice and snow that caused hundreds of school closures Monday throughout southeast Michigan soon will be a mere memory, but not for long!

The week got off to a slick, sloppy start in southeast Michigan, but those who don't relish shoveling snow and scraping ice are in luck: Temperatures are expected to approach 60 degrees Tuesday. The area, including Dexter and Chelsea, will have swung from being under a winter weather advisory Sunday to experiencing spring-like temperatures and rain showers over the course of just two days, according to the National Weather Service. The mix of snow and freezing rain that began Sunday and lasted overnight into Monday morning forced the Dexter and Chelsea school districts and hundreds of others in the area to close. The Henry Ford Health System offers some tips to stay safe during this blistering cold weather. Prevention The key to avoiding cold weather injuries is to dress appropriately. This includes layering clothing with a first layer that pulls moisture away from the skin, an outer layer that keeps the elements out and a middle layer that insulates. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) released a public request Thursday morning to remind drivers to keep their distance from snowplows when they’re working.

Do you believe in miracles? Those dreaming of a white Christmas this year -- might see nothing short of a miracle Tuesday morning. The weather report for Dexter and Chelsea is calling for snow showers on Thursday and Friday with temperatures ranging from 32 to 24 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The chance for precipitation is 80 percent on Thursday and 70 percent on Friday. There could be as much as one and a half inches of snow by Saturday morning -- just three days shy of Christmas Day. An icy iteration of the wintry precipitation rapped at windows Friday in Dexter and Chelsea and the National Weather Service predicts more of the white stuff could fall Monday and Tuesday. The forecasting agency issued a hazardous weather outlook Friday for portions of southeast Michigan, including Washtenaw County, that called for winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour through Friday evening. "A low pressure system tracking through the Ohio Valley could bring accumulating snow to the region Monday night and Tuesday," according to the advisory.
