Dexter Village Council Approves Six-Year Tax Abatement for Northern United Brewing Company

The company is expanding its Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales operation in the village to include a distillery, winery and tasting room.

In its first official action as a new board following the Nov. 6 general election, the Dexter Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved a tax abatement for Northern United Brewing Company. Northern United, the parent company of Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales, applied for an industrial facilities tax exemption for six years for $1.5 million in real property and seven years for $1.6 million in personal property. The company is planning to expand its current operations and expand to 2319 Bishop Circle East in order to build a distillery, winery, and brewery. The annual abatement is approximately $5,330 in real property and $5,490 in personal property taxes from the village, and $21,633 in real property and $22,282 in personal property taxes …

Northern United Brewing Company Plans Expansion of Jolly Pumpkin in Dexter

The company plans to move operations to Dexter and open a distillery and tasting room.

Wine and beer connoisseurs may soon be adding Dexter to their list of brewery visits if plans for a proposed distillery for Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales is approved by the Dexter Village Council. Northern United Brewing Company, LLC., the parent company of Jolly Pumpkin, has submitted a development proposal to the Dexter Planning Commission to redevelop the former Martinrea building, located at 2319 Bishop Circle East in the industrial park in Dexter as a beer and wine distillery with a tasting room. The plant is expected to serve Jolly Pumpkin's three locations in Dexter, Ann Arbor and Traverse City, while the tasting room would be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Trustee Paul Cousins said he welcomes the new business, but expressed hesitation …
