Dexter School Board President Larry Cobler says replacing current Superintendent Mary Marshall could be a long process.
DEXTER — With Dexter Community Schools' Superintendent Mary Marshall leaving the district before the end of the 2012-2013 school year, preliminary search plans are underway to find a replacement. The school board could be accepting applications for a new superintendent in early January and will likely operate a portion of the school year with an interim superintendent, Board President Larry Cobler told the Dexter Leader. Cobler said the board may hire the Michigan Leadership Institute a headhunter firm, to help search for potential superintendent candidates. The Dexter superintendent has entered into contract negotiations with the Pentwater Public Schools Board of Education following a job interview on Wednesday.
PENTWATER — The Pentwater Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously Wednesday night to enter into contract negotiations with Mary Marshall, superintendent of Dexter Community Schools to become the new superintendent/principal of Pentwater Public Schools. According to the Ludington Daily News, Marshall was picked over three other candidates following her interview Wednesday night. Marshall told Patch on Thursday driving back from Pentwater that she has "mixed feelings" about the announcement. "I am excited about this opportunity both personally and professionally," she said. Dexter Community Schools Superintendent Mary Marshall is one of four finalists for a superintendent position with the Pentwater Public Schools District, according to an article in the Oceana Herald-Journal. Marshall was one of 32 applicants who applied for the job vacated earlier this summer by Superintendent Bob Gendron. Marshall said she was notified about the decision this week. "My interest in this position is based on a longer range family plan to live on the west side of the state near Lake Michigan and some unique professional opportunities to have more connections with the teaching and learning process," she said.
