Salvation Army Issues Urgent Appeal for Red Kettle Campaign Donations

Donations for the Salvation Army of Washtenaw County will be accepted through Jan. 31 to help the charity reach its goal of $330,000.

The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County (TSA-WC) is turning to the community for help and support during the holidays. While it’s iconic red kettles and bell ringers will disappear from Washtenaw County storefronts on Christmas Eve, Kroger and Busch’s stores will continue to host bell ringers and kettles through Dec. 29 to help the charity reach its goal of $330,000. The TSA-WC is $40,000 behind this same point in last year’s campaign, which is jeopardizing the nonprofit’s chances of achieving its 2012 goal. Beyond red kettle donations, TSA-WC will also continue to accept campaign contributions through Jan. 31. Donations Down for Salvation Army of Washtenaw County

2012 Red Kettle Campaign contributions are down more than $20,000 since the campaign launched in November.

The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County is lagging behind in its 2012 Red Kettle Campaign fundraising effort to raise $330,000. Ann Arbor area donations during the first 20 days of the annual fundraiser are down more than $20,000 compared to last year, a trend that would impair the nonprofit’s ability to provide human services, such as food and shelter, to residents in need. In 2012, the Salvation Army helped provide more than 32,200 meals, 21,900 nights of shelter and 7,500 Christmas gifts to individuals and families throughout Washtenaw County. Salvation Army of Washtenaw County Kicks-Off 2012 Red Kettle Fundraising Campaign

The annual campaign will attempt to raise $330,000 for needy families across the county with 40 kettle locations.

ANN ARBOR — The familiar sounds of ringing bells could be heard throughout Briarwood Mall as members of the Salvation Army of Washtenaw County kicked-off the annual Red Kettle holiday campaign on Friday. "With Ann Arbor's poverty rate at 24 percent, we expect the demand for assistance to continue increasing," Major John Williams said. Washtenaw County Salvation Army Seeks Volunteers for Annual Red Kettle Campaign

Groups or individuals can sign up for holiday shifts beginning Nov. 9.

The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County (TSA-WC) is seeking volunteers for the 2012 Red Kettle Campaign. This year's Red Kettle goal of $330,000 will help provide the essential services throughout the year to those in need in Washtenaw County. “With Ann Arbor’s poverty rate at 24 percent, we expect the demand for assistance to continue increasing,” said Major John Williams. “Every dollar donated in Washtenaw County helps us provide important services to people right here in this community.” The Salvation Army’s red kettles will be stationed at more than 35 storefronts throughout Washtenaw County, including JC Penney, Busch's, K-Mart, TJ Maxx and Walmart, beginning Nov. 9 through Monday, Dec. 24.
