St. Andrew's UCC in Dexter Hosts Sauerkraut Supper Thursday

Roast pork, mashed potatoes, and knoeffles will be served at the church on Feb. 7.

St. Andrew's United Church of Christ will host its monthly dinner on Feb. 7. The meal will include sauerkraut, knoeffles, roast pork, mashed potatoes, gravy, applesauce, a roll and dessert. Serving begins at 5 p.m. Tickets for both dine-in and carry out meals will be available at the door, and are $8 for adults, $5 for youth ages 5-12, and free for children 4 and younger. The church is located at 7610 Ann Arbor St.

Dexter Girl Scouts Holiday Craft Bazaar Set for Saturday

The scouts will sell handmade crafts at St. Andrew's United Church of Christ in Dexter.

The Dexter Girl Scouts annual holiday bazaar will take place on Saturday at St. Andrew's United Church of Christ as part of the "Home for the Holidays" winter festival in Dexter. The bazaar will feature handmade crafts and baked goods inside the church's Fellowship Hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. "This is an opportunity for the girls to make crafts that they can sell to the public to raise money for their troops," event coordinator Pam Sawin said. Girl Scouts range in age from 5 to 18, so the crafts vary by design and complexity. "The bazaar is a fantastic place to purchase teacher gifts, something for grandma or have children come who want to buy something for mom or another sibling," Sawin said. Dexter, Chelsea Plan Veterans Day Services for Community

A Veterans Day service will be held in Chelsea and Dexter on Nov. 11.

Veterans of the U.S. military, and those currently serving in the Armed Forces, will be guests again this year at a special service at St. Andrew's United Church of Christ in Dexter. The service will take place at 10 a.m. Nov. 11. All veterans and service personnel in the community, and their families, are invited to this event. Girl Scouts from Troop 40513 will lead the program as color guard for the American and Christian flags. Veterans will be recognized as they stand at the presentation of the flags of each of the military branches. The anthem of each branch will be played as veterans are honored. St. Andrew's Church Celebrates 91 Years of Community Dinners

The church's annual sauerkraut supper is scheduled for Oct. 18 in Dexter.

By Elaine Owsley For the  past 91 years, every October, St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ in Dexter has been families who flock to the church for the annual sauerkraut supper. This year's dinner is slated for Oct. 18. Roast pork, sauerkraut, homemade knoeffles (German-style pasta pronounced “nifflees"), mashed potatoes, pickled beets and pies, make up the meal. All dishes are made at the church, and some of the workers are third and fourth generation in this annual event. Good eating is following in the German tradition of the church founders, 129 years ago in October. Serving begins at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 18, with carry-outs available. A country store is also part of the event, featuring a variety of crafts and homemade baked goods. …

Luck o' the Irish

Rev. Larry VanSlambrook and volunteer Bob Stacey, introduced Dexter High School exchange student Sonam Chawla to the St. Patrick's Day tradition of corned beef and cabbage at a dinner held at St. Andrew's United Church of Christ in Dexter on March 1. Sonam is from Pakistan and attended the event with Frank and Eva Slavik, members of St. Andrew's.
