Wolverines Win on the Field; Spartans Win on Patch

Saturday's Michigan vs. Michigan State game was close in both scoring and online reader support.

Saturday's game at the Big House came down to the wire, with Michigan beating Michigan State 12-10. The rivalry was nearly as close online in a Patch.com reader poll. Readers were asked to show off their Michigan or Michigan State pride by uploading photos of their favorite team. When the photos were counted at midnight Sunday, the Spartans squeaked by with a 35-30 victory over the Wolverines. Several photos featured memorabilia from both teams, which resulted in each team being awarded a point. If you missed the photo gallery, there's still time to check it out. And while the photos have already been tallied, you can still add your shots from your favorite team by clicking on the upload link.

Michigan Volleyball Team Hosts 'Block Out Bullying' Match Against EMU

Students from across Washtenaw County were invited to watch the match at Cliff Keen Arena and learn about bullying on Friday.

By Barbara Read The University of Michigan volleyball team held its first-ever "Block Out Bullying" match on Friday against Eastern Michigan. Dexter’s entire Creekside Intermediate School student body was among the 1,200 students from Ann Arbor and surrounding school districts invited to the campus to participate in fun and educational activities with U-M student-athletes. U-M Coach Mark Rosen set the tone for the day by telling the students they could root for whichever team they wanted, but there was to be no rooting against the opposing team. “When bullying goes on, there are usually at least three people involved: the person getting bullied, the person doing the bullying and someone who sees it,” Rosen said. He told the students that …

Detroit Red Wings to Play 2013 Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium

Gov. Rick Snyder signed off on alcohol sales at the Big House for the 2013 NHL Winter Classic on Wednesday.

ANN ARBOR — The University of Michigan has been cleared to serve beer and alcohol at Michigan Stadium on New Year's Day for the National Hockey League's 2013 Bridgestone Winter Classic. On Wednesday, Gov. Rick Snyder signed a bill sponsored by state Rep. Mark Ouimet, R-Scio Township, granting a special "tavern" liquor license for the NHL's Jan. 1, 2013 outdoor hockey game between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. The bill allows beer, wine, and mixed drinks to be served inside the gates of the Big House, where alcohol isn't allowed to be served for Michigan football games. The special license is good for 30 consecutive days so alcohol also can be served at the stadium for festivities leading up to the game, according to a …

Tickets for the classic Neil Simon comedy can be purchased online at www.emergentarts.com.

ANN ARBOR — The Emergent Arts Theatre Company will stage Neil Simon’s legendary comedy The Odd Couple at the Arthur Miller Theatre in Ann Arbor on May 24-27. The Odd Couple is a time capsule from a more innocent time, when America was on the verge of adulthood. The old ways were being trashed, families being redefined; even men were made to “discover themselves." In the middle of these topsy-turvy times, two former family men, Oscar Madison and Felix Unger, discover each other. The ensuing train crash of personalities becomes a perfectly damaged vehicle for the comic exploration of everything from suicide to the proper way to prepare a London broil. The play has inspired a television series, two movies, and a phrase/title that has …
