The sheriff's office is investigating two recent burglaries in western Washtenaw County.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help to catch unknown suspects who allegedly stole several tools from a Dexter Township business. According to a Nixle Alert from the sheriff, on Jan. 29, a deputy was dispatched to the 8500 block of North Territorial Road for the report of a break in that occurred overnight. The suspect or suspects forced entry into the business through a back door, along with forcing entry into outside storage sheds. Numerous generators, yard tools and cash were removed from the property. The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office recently honored Cpl. John Scafasci for his involvement in the arrest of two suspects who allegedly burglarized several homes in Webster Township. According to the Sheriff's Office, Scafasci responded to Webster Township on Jan. 24 for a home invasion in progress. Scafasci engaged in a vehicle pursuit and subsequent foot chase resulting in the arrest of two male suspects from Ypsilanti. A Sheriff’s K-9 Unit responded to the scene of the arrest and was able to search the area and locate important evidence, including a small caliber firearm and additional stolen property, according to police. The suspects in the case were criminally charged and transported to Washtenaw County Jail.

On Feb. 8, deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 7400 block of Walsh Road in Webster Township for the report of a home invasion that had occurred sometime during the day. An unknown suspect or suspects forced entry into the home through a screened porch. Officers are still investigating the stolen items. Larceny On Feb. 9 deputies were dispatched to the 8000 block of Main St. in the village of Dexter in response to a larceny that had occurred overnight. According to police reports, the victim left a 20-foot ladder behind one of the businesses while he was doing maintenance in the area. Police do not know who took the ladder. Beginning Feb. 1, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, University of Michigan Department of Public Safety, Pittsfield Department of Public Safety, and the Saline Police Department will step up enforcement and be on the lookout for impaired drivers in Washtenaw County on Super Bowl weekend. The special traffic enforcement period takes place from Feb. 1 through Feb. 3. Officers will work more than 150 hours in Washtenaw County designated for drunken driving enforcement. This special traffic enforcement is paid by federal traffic safety funds, which are administrated by the Office of Highway Safety Planning. Washtenaw County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a burglary at Faith Lutheran Church.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is investigating a burglary that occurred at Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter Township on Saturday. According to police, an unknown suspect or suspects forced entry into the building by breaking out a window. Once inside they searched closets and drawers but nothing was taken. Officers said it is unclear whether the burglary is connected to other church burglaries that occurred in western Washtenaw County in November and December 2012.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is investigating a home burglary near the 7000 block of Ulrich Drive in the village of Dexter. According to police reports, on Jan. 15 an unknown suspect or suspects entered the home through an unlocked basement window between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Deputies said video game consoles and several video games were stolen. The investigation is ongoing. On Jan. 19 at approximately 9:30 a.m., a female resident called 911 to inform police that she heard someone enter her basement, near the 3000 block of Bristol Road. The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of several guns from a residence in Webster Township. According to police reports, on Jan. 19, a homeowner in the 7000 block of Base Lake called 911 to report several handguns, long guns, and shotguns taken from his unlocked garage. Deputies said the man heard his dog barking and a vehicle idling outside his house shortly before calling 911. The case is still under investigation. The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is investigating a burglary of a residence near the 7000 block of Third Street in the village of Dexter. According to police reports, an unknown suspect or suspects entered the unlocked detached garage and removed a set of golf clubs and some miscellaneous outdoor clothing from the property between Nov. 15 and Dec. 23. The Washtenaw Intermediate School District recently received a $2,000 donation from Suburban Chevrolet in Ann Arbor to assist with the WISD's Education Project for Homeless Youth. Mike Mosser, general manager of the auto dealership, presented the check to WISD representative Jennifer Martin on the Lucy Ann Lance Show. The donation was designed to “show appreciation for the great work of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office” by benefitting a charity chosen by Sheriff Jerry Clayton. The Education Project for Homeless Youth serves and supports young people who are homeless and tries to maintain educational stability for them.
