The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, along with several local law enforcement agencies, will increase patrols to help keep drunk drivers off the road beginning St. Patrick's Day weekend. The special traffic enforcement period takes place from March 15 through April 8, which includes St. Patrick's Day, the NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments, and high school and college spring breaks. Officers with the University of Michigan Department of Public Safety, Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety, Saline Police Department, and the Northfield Township Police Department will work more than 200 hours in Washtenaw County designated for drunken driving enforcement. On Feb. 28, a Webster Township resident in the 7000 block of Quail Ridge contacted the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office to report an unauthorized purchase on his credit card. According to police records, the resident told deputies that Verizon Wireless charged his card for the purchase of six iPads to ship to New York. Verizon credited the card owner's account. The case has been turned over to the company's office in New York. A laptop and camera were removed from a residence in the 2700 block of E. Delhi Road on Friday.
A home in the 2700 block of E. Delhi Road in Scio Township was burglarized on March 1. According to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to the residence on Friday morning. An unknown suspect or suspects forced entry through the front door, police said. Once inside they ransacked the home and stole a camera and laptop computer. A 17-year-old was arrested on Feb. 17 at the Dexter Mobil Mart in the 7000 block of Dexter-Ann Arbor Road for allegedly shoplifting a bottle of Mountain Dew. According to police reports, deputies were dispatched to the gas station around 9:30 a.m. The suspect admitted to stealing the pop because he didn't have any money to pay for it. The teenager was turned over to his parents pending further action. A Washtenaw County man was arrested and faces narcotics possession charges during a routine traffic stop in the village of Dexter on Feb. 10. According to police reports, sheriff's deputies observed a dark colored van speeding down Dexter-Ann Arbor Road at approximately 8:45 a.m. The vehicle also had expired tabs on the license plate. After stopping the vehicle, deputies discovered the driver did not have a valid license and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was given sobriety tests and arrested on a charge of possession of narcotics, marijuana, and several warrants for operating under the influence. The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office arrested a Dexter Township man after he illegally discharged a gun while under the influence of alcohol at his home on Feb. 4. According to police, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 8000 block of Second Street after receiving 911 reports of shots fired at the residence. The police report states that deputies attempted to make contact with the homeowner with a vehicle PA system but were unsuccessful. Permission was then granted by a second homeowner to enter the house. According to police, the suspect was located in the bedroom asleep and intoxicated. On Feb. 15, deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office responded to 5500 Deer Run Lane in Webster Township for a vehicle larceny complaint. According to police reports, two vehicles were broken into overnight. Both cars were unlocked, and an unknown suspect or suspects rummaged through the cars, removing a laptop, calculator, and backpack, police said. The case is under investigation. On Feb. 17, deputies were dispatched to 5600 Jackson Ave. in Scio Township for the report of a vehicle being broken into sometime between 1 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. The suspect or suspects smashed out a passenger window to the car and then stole a purse that was sitting on the passenger seat, police said. There are no suspects at this time.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is investigating a home burglary that took place in the 8000 block of Territorial Road in Dexter Township on Jan. 29. According to police records, an unknown suspect or suspects pushed through an air conditioning unit, gained entry into the house, and stole several tools and power tools before exiting out the back door. The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is urging residents in the village of Dexter and surrounding townships to lock their vehicle doors and not leave valuable items in plain view. According to Sgt. Keith Flores, deputies have been investigating several vehicle thefts in Dexter Village and Dexter Township since January. According to police records, an iPad, credit cards, and other miscellaneous items were removed from a vehicle parked in the 9000 block of McGregor Road between 9 p.m. Jan. 24 and 5 a.m. Jan. 25.
